T Wardrobe

Site: Bilbao, Vizcaya
Design: 2024
Construction: 2024

The T wardrobe was conceived as an innovative piece of furniture, deliberately distancing itself from the conventional aesthetic of hotel wardrobes. Its design reflects a philosophy that integrates sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics to offer an efficient and environmentally friendly solution, without sacrificing the elegance and comfort guests demand. This vision has allowed the T wardrobe to obtain the Ecodesign certification granted by AENOR, meeting the requirements established in the UNE-EN ISO 14006 standard. This recognition confirms that its manufacturing considers and minimizes environmental impacts at all stages of its life cycle, from the extraction of raw materials to their eventual recycling.

Angulo Arquitectura has opted for a structure composed of two clearly differentiated volumes, customizable depending on the needs and circumstances of each room. The first, vertically arranged, is intended for storing clothing, personal belongings, and a small catering refrigerator, designed for short stays. The second, horizontally oriented volume serves as a luggage rack and incorporates visible metal bars that act as hangers, facilitating textile storage without the need for doors or complex systems. It also has lower drawers for storing belongings and a specific compartment for the safe.

In this sense, the Ecodesign measures that set it apart from other similar items lie in the use of raw materials manufactured by a local company. To achieve this, a sober and functional palette has been defined, composed of easily separable and recyclable elements. Wood is used exclusively to resolve the formal and structural aspects of the design, while metal is reserved for anchor points, hinges, and details that require greater mechanical resistance. This choice responds not only to aesthetic criteria, but also to circular economy principles, facilitating the disassembly and reuse of components at the end of the product’s useful life.

One of the most notable aspects of the T wardrobe is the use of particle board made from recycled wood. This decision allows the use of virgin wood to be reduced by practically 100%, significantly reducing the environmental impact associated with its use. Furthermore, the use of traditional varnishes and lacquers has been avoided, opting instead for natural thermo-adhesives that allow the exterior finish to be configured without generating polluting emissions or toxic waste.

For components requiring greater wear resistance, such as handles, hinges, and brackets, standardized metal parts were selected, primarily aluminum, due to its high recyclability and lightness. This choice helps reduce the overall weight of the furniture, facilitating its transport and installation. Adhesives formulated with natural proteins were also used, providing excellent adhesion without compromising the sustainability of the entire structure.

The T wardrobe reflects a contemporary vision of hotel furniture, where every technical and material choice is geared toward improving the user experience and reducing environmental impact. It is a piece that not only fulfills its practical function but also communicates a commitment to the environment and to new ways of inhabiting spaces.

The T wardrobe has the Ecodesign certificate awarded by AENOR
