A house designed to face the sea
The house sits on an elevated 750 m² plot and has a constructed area of 250 m². From the outset, the design was conceived to orient the main rooms towards the Cantabrian Sea, allowing the views and natural light to take center stage in every space.
The house is organized around two longitudinal volumes that adapt to the terrain and create a clean, light architectural image that is perfectly integrated into the coastal landscape. Thanks to this arrangement, the main facades open wide to the north and south, taking advantage of both the sea views and the relationship with the inland landscape formed by fields, forests and natural spaces in the area of Barrika and Plentzia.
Open spaces, natural light, and spaciousness
Upon entering, the double-height spaces create a great sense of spaciousness and light. The house is conceived as a succession of spaces visually connected to the exterior, where each room enjoys privileged views and a close relationship with the landscape.
Large windows make the surroundings part of the architecture. The sea, the sky, and the vegetation constantly change throughout the day, transforming the experience of the interior spaces and reinforcing the feeling of living in direct contact with nature.
Durable materials for a home by the sea
The exterior envelope combines resistant and low-maintenance materials, especially suitable for a location exposed to the climatic conditions of the Basque coast.
Exposed concrete, metalwork, and solar control glass provide durability, energy efficiency, and a contemporary aesthetic that engages with the landscape without imposing itself on it.
The selection of materials responds to both functional criteria and the desire to create a timeless architecture, capable of integrating naturally into the environment of the Barrika cliffs.
Contemporary architecture in harmony with the landscape
Beyond its residential function, this house represents an approach to architecture based on respect for the site and the pursuit of well-being for its inhabitants.
The project champions contemporary architecture in Bizkaia, taking advantage of the unique conditions of the environment to create luminous, open spaces deeply connected to the landscape.
