Site: Amorebieta, Bizkaia.
Competition: 2016

The site, oriented mainly towards Txiki Otaegi Street and Plaza Zelaieta, presents a special challenge due to the party wall it shares with the adjacent sports center. The latter, with its contemporary character, contrasts with the historical buildings in the surroundings. To resolve this complexity, the design opts for a compositional leap that allows for a balanced visual and functional integration, highlighting the architectural values of each element.
The main entrance to the music school is proposed through Txiki Otaegi Street, a strategic point that becomes the project’s organizing axis. The building’s ground floor retracts to open a passage that connects the street with the square, creating a transition space that invites passersby to integrate into the environment. This decision not only reinforces the relationship between the building and its urban surroundings but also provides direct and functional access to Plaza Zelaieta, consolidating its importance as a public space.
On the upper floors, the building adopts a contoured shape that maximizes views to and from the square and the street, integrating harmoniously into the urban fabric. This architectural movement not only responds to visual needs but also generates aesthetic dynamism that reflects the vibrant and creative essence of music.
The interior design of the school is aimed at fostering interaction and learning, with spacious and versatile areas that adapt to various educational and cultural activities. Natural lighting, enhanced by the building’s orientation and undulating forms, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere that inspires creativity.
With this project, Angulo Arquitectura aims to represent not only an architectural advancement but also a tribute to local art and culture. This public facility becomes a space for meeting, learning, and celebration, where architecture and music dialogue in perfect harmony.
