The Ola Martín Berasategui Restaurant is located in the old quarter, next to the estuary and opposite the Merced Bridge. The space is located in the Hotel Tayko Bilbao, whose building dates back to 1924 and is the fourth concrete building in Spain and the second in Bilbao.
Like the rest of the hotel, the restaurant has an industrial style, with exposed brick walls, iron beams and grey tones, evoking and paying homage to the industrial past of the town of Bilbao.

The restaurant owners tasked our studio, Angulo Arquitectura, with relocating their restaurant from the first floor of Hotel Tayko Bilbao to the ground floor. Primarily, the project consisted of redesigning a new gastronomic space that would maintain the essence of the original, accommodating new spatial and customer needs influenced by the city’s proximity and hotel flows.
As with the hotel’s design, the main compositional goal was to highlight the marvelous building that houses this restaurant. Lighting, for creating different atmospheres and chiaroscuros, has been one of the primary tools used to create a unique and welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, special attention was given to selecting materials and colors that respect the building’s architecture and reinforce the restaurant’s identity.
