Lugar: Bilbao, España
Proyecto: 2024
Obra: 2024
The Ola Martín Berasategui Restaurant is located in Bilbao’s Old Town, next to the river and opposite the La Merced Bridge, occupying the ground floor of the Tayko Bilbao Hotel. The restaurant is integrated into a building constructed in 1924, considered the fourth oldest building in Spain built with a reinforced concrete structure and one of the most representative buildings of the city’s architectural heritage.
Like the rest of the hotel, the space embraces an industrial aesthetic that highlights the building’s history. Exposed brick, the metal structure, and the neutral color palette evoke Bilbao’s industrial past, creating a contemporary atmosphere that complements the original architecture.

The owners commissioned Angulo Arquitectura to relocate the restaurant from the hotel’s first floor to the ground floor, with the aim of creating a more open, accessible, and connected dining space. The project has consisted of reinterpreting the identity of the original restaurant, adapting it to a new location and to the current operational needs, both for customers and for the hotel’s own dynamics.
As with the renovation of the Tayko Bilbao Hotel, the interior design is based on respect for the existing architecture. The intervention seeks to highlight the building’s original elements, allowing materials such as concrete, exposed brick, and the metal structure to become the focal points of the space.
Lighting plays a fundamental role in the project, creating different atmospheres through plays of light and shadow that add depth, warmth, and comfort. The selection of materials, finishes, and colors reinforces the restaurant’s identity and maintains a coherent relationship with the building’s industrial character.
The new design not only preserves the essence of the original restaurant but also offers a renewed experience, adapted to the expectations of the contemporary visitor. The layout and furniture design have been carefully considered to create different environments, capable of accommodating everything from intimate meals to larger gatherings. The organization of the circulation promotes a smooth flow of the restaurant and contributes to creating a comfortable, elegant, and welcoming atmosphere.
The Ola Martín Berasategui Restaurant project demonstrates how architecture and interior design can reinforce the identity of a gastronomic space without losing its connection to the building that houses it.
The combination of heritage, contemporary design, and functionality allows for the creation of a restaurant where the culinary experience and architecture complement each other, establishing this space as one of the most unique gastronomic offerings in Bilbao’s Old Town.

The task was to redesign a new gastronomic space that would maintain the essence of the original, accommodating new spatial and customer needs
