The renovation began with an exhaustive restoration of the facades and internal structure, paying special attention to elements such as the floors and the roof. Angulo Arquitectura valued the original geometric and compositional qualities, seeking to maintain and enhance the unique aesthetics of the existing materials. Priority was given to the texture and historical character that these materials gave to the architectural complex, thus respecting the essence of the palace.
Among the most significant modifications, the central skylight occupies a prominent place. Originally conceived to allow the entry of natural light, this element was transformed into an operable skylight during the renovation. This intervention not only maximizes the natural lighting of the interior spaces but also offers visitors spectacular views of the Cantabrian Sea. From this point, Izaro Island emerges as a visually stunning focal point, adding unique value to the guests’ experience.
The hotel’s design was conceived to organize the rooms, restaurant, lobby-bar, and other spaces around a central patio illuminated by the skylight. This central space not only improves the functional distribution of the building but also creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for guests. The connection between the interior and exterior, reinforced by natural lighting, enriches the experience of those visiting the hotel.
Furthermore, the palace’s original elements were complemented with modern and subtle details that harmonize with the historical architecture, creating a balance between tradition and modernity, combining functionality, history, and beauty in a unique setting.
